Our story

Since 2012, Summer Smash Tennis has provided high quality tennis programs to community centers, schools and First Nations in Vancouver. We are known for our small class sizes, focus on technique, and warm community vibe.

Social impact

We introduce students of all ages to the game of tennis and facilitate meaningful skill development at the grassroots level. We teach over 2000 students per year and our lessons have a huge impact on local communities.

Are you an enthusiastic and energetic pickleball coach that has a passion for teaching?

Summer Smash Tennis located in Vancouver, B.C. is looking to hire a part time Pickleball Instructor for September 2026 – August 2027. The role of the Instructor will be to coach pickleball lessons including group classes and private lessons for both children and adults across the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

Job Description

The Instructor will be an important part of the coaching team and must be able to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and possess a keen willingness to learn the Summer Smash Tennis progression. Throughout the season, the instructors’ primary responsibilities will involve delivering pickleball lessons for children and adults.

Reponsibilities
- Learn the Summer Smash Tennis coaching progression
- Teach pickleball fundamentals to children and adults following our progression
- Work closely and cooperatively with the coaching team to ensure safe and productive lessons
- Communicate with the Summer Smash Tennis organization in a professional manner
- Maintain a positive learning environment for students and staff
- Ensure equipment and work spaces are left tidy for other coaches
- Be friendly, caring, hardworking, high-energy, punctual, reliable, and willing to learn
Required Qualifications
- Current Pickleball Instructor certification or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year experience teaching or coaching young children (ages 4-13)
- Significant playing experience
- A clean Criminal Record Check
- Be a kind, aware, and chill person
Preferred Qualifications
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Access to a vehicle*
- First Aid/CPR
  *Candidates with access to a vehicle may be prioritized
Hours and Compensation
- Term of employment: September 2026 – August 2027
- Part time available on Sundays
- Starting hourly rate of $35/hr – $60/hr
- Compensation will be based on the candidates level of certification and experience

Are you a tennis player who loves the sport and wants to start building a coaching career?

Summer Smash Tennis is looking for motivated volunteers to join our coaching team for the spring and summer seasons (May–August 2026). This is an ideal opportunity for new coaches seeking experience and students seeking community service or volunteer hours to gain hands-on experience assisting with instruction.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Tennis Instructor, you will work alongside our certified coaches to support group lessons for children. You’ll get real on-court experience in a structured, supportive environment — building the exact skills needed to pursue a Tennis Canada Instructor certification or other teaching roles in sport.

Responsibilities
- Assist lead coaches in delivering group tennis lessons for children
- Learn and apply the Summer Smash Tennis coaching progression
- Support warm-up activities, ball feeding, and on-court demonstrations
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and energetic learning environment
- Keep equipment and court spaces organized and ready
- Communicate professionally with coaches, students, and staff
Qualifications
- A genuine passion for tennis and working with young people
- Intermediate or higher playing ability (recreational to competitive)
- Positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn
- Comfortable working with children (ages 4–13)
- A clean Criminal Record Check (required; we can help facilitate this)
Nice to Have
- Some experience with children in a coaching, camp, or tutoring setting
- Familiarity with the Progressive Tennis model (red, orange, green ball)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
Volunteer Details
- Term: Flexible, anytime between May and August 2026
- Hours: Typically 4–15 hours per week depending on availability
- Compensation: Unpaid volunteer role
